Rohit Sharma was Excluded from Test XI of the Men in Blue during the West Indies tour
India Cricket Team’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane found it hard to see Rohit Sharma benched from the two-Test series in the West Indies tour last month. Rohit was named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as the Test opener after being considered by the selectors. The batsman’s selection as the opener led to the replacement of KL Rahul who failed to score huge figures in the West Indies Test series.
'I don't know yet if Rohit will open the innings. If he does then I'm really happy for him. In West Indies also it's actually hard to see a player like Rohit sitting outside. He works so hard, he's been with the Test team for long now, so if he gets an opportunity I'll be really happy for him and I'm sure he will do well’, Rahane said.
'We all know the quality and talent he has and Test cricket is all about mindset. ODI cricket we all know you can just go out there and back yourself, in Test cricket sometimes if two bowlers are bowling good spells you've got to respect that spell and come out strongly and play your game after that'.
It was Rohit’s first time to bat as an opener. During the Men in Blue’s tour of Australia, Rohit has played two Tests and scored 106 runs including an unbeaten 63 in the first innings in Melbourne. Rohit and Rahane batted in the middle order.
The Men in Blue is set to play the Test series against the Proteas on October 2. To know more about Test cricket, check out the page on Betwala.
