He wants Haris Sohail, Babar Azam as limited-overs captain, Test skipper respectively.
Pakistan wasn’t able to make the semi-finals of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, leaving fans and players alike disappointed. Captained by Sarfaraz Ahmed, the Men in Green began their World Cup campaign horribly, losing 7 wickets to West Indies. They were only able to win one out of their first seven games but came back strong to win their last four games.
Despite finishing with the same standing as New Zealand, their inferior Net Run-rate prevented them from making the semi-finals. This triggered a barrage of criticism from fans, former players, and even selectors. Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq vacated his post while Head coach Mickey Arthur and captain Sarfaraz came under fire. There have been talks of appointing captains for different formats.
Shoaib Akhtar has a similar idea and has made a few suggestions. He suggested that Haris Sohail should lead the team in T20Is and ODIs while backing Babar Azam as Pakistan’s Test skipper. Both have no experience in leading Pakistan.
Akhtar wants their side to win more tournaments and games, and if replacing the current team captain with two replacements to lead them in different formats works, then he and the fans will be pleased. To find out more about the different cricket formats, visit Betwala's page.
