A delivery from Jofra Archer hit him on the chin but kept playing.
Alex Carey, Australia’s wicket-keeper - batsman, took a fast delivery from Jofra Archer to the head during their semi-final match at Edgbaston. His helmet got knocked off, then he started to bleed from his chin.
All this happened during the eighth over of their innings which needed immediate medical attention. The medical team applied bandages which was enough for Carey as he returned to the crease to continue playing. The fans were quick to cite a similar scenario that also happened to Australia’s Ricky Ponting - he was hit on the cheek before he started bleeding.
Carey went on to score 70 off 46 balls, falling to Adil Rashid. He and Steve Smith scored an important 103-run stand and attempted to keep their team in the game. However, their efforts were not enough as they fell to England.
Australia may be unable to defend their world cup title, but with The Ashes fast approaching, they are looking to avenge their loss to England, their rivals in the said tournament. To find out more about the different cricket leagues, visit Betwala’s page.
