Ali Khan Joins Kolkata Knight Riders

Ali Khan replaces Harry Gurney in the lineup of the Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming IPL 2020.

As Harry Gurney opts out of the IPL and T20 Blast League due to an upcoming operation for his shoulder injury, his IPL franchise has already roped in a replacement for him. With that, the Kolkata Knight Riders have tapped in Ali Khan to be Gurney’s replacement in the upcoming IPL 2020. This makes him the first-ever USA player to be featured in the IPL.

Khan just finished off with a great season with the Trinbago Knight Riders of the Caribbean Premier League. So far, the said team has remained to be unbeaten for all 12 games in the season which are en route to the title.

The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the top fast bowlers in the CPL in the past three years. Having taken down eight wickets in the season at an average of 7.43, he has already earned himself several contracts from various T20 leagues in the world. In fact, he has already been on KKR’s radar since last season, considering that the TKR and the KKR share the same parent company.

Khan rose to fame in 2018 when he was spotted by TKR captain and Chennai Super Kings allrounder Dwayne Bravo at the Global T20 Canada. After then, he had already been featured in the CPL that year. He finished the season with 16 wickets in 12 matches and was awarded as the second-best fast bowler in the competition.

Just recently, Khan was also seen in the Instagram stories of Bravo. The picture was shot inside a plane with the caption ‘next stop Dubai’. This also adds up to the confirmation that he will be playing in the IPL which is to be held in Dubai.

IPL 2020 will kick-off in a match between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings on September 19. To learn more about the IPL, visit Betwala.
