Indian player Shubman Gill may be sidelined for the Test matches against England due to his leg injury.
India and England are scheduled to play against each other in a five-Test match series starting on August 4. Although it may still be a month away, fans are already made aware of Shubman Gill’s uncertainty to play because of his undisclosed leg injury.
According to an Indian medical staff, they suspect that Gill likely needs to have a minimum of eight weeks rest before he can go back to his playing condition. This will coincide with the match schedules, thus making it possible for him to miss out on a few games or the entire match series.
Talking about the 21-year-old’s injury, an anonymous source said, ‘Shubman has sustained a shin stress fracture, which will keep him out of action for minimum two months, which effectively rules him out of the first three Tests against England in August’.
‘It will be a race against time to get him fit for the final two Test matches in September after completing rehabilitation’, the source added.
Details of the said injury remain unclear but it is speculated that he may have picked it up from the team’s recent fitness training session. Meanwhile, others think that he was carrying the injury for some time and that it had aggravated in the just-concluded World Test Championship against New Zealand.
It is understood that his condition will be monitored by physio Nitin Patel and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai in the United Kingdom. However, what remains unclear is if he is required to stay with the team or if he will return home for his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.
Should Gill be officially ruled out from the series, Abhimanyu Easwaran will likely replace him in the squad as one of the openers. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul are the two other Indian openers on the upcoming Test matches from August 12 to September 14. To further understand how Test matches are played, visit Betwala.
