West Indies player Andre Fletcher has been signed by the Melbourne Stars as a replacement for Jonny Bairstow.
Because of international duties, English batsman Jonny Bairstow had been called up by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This makes him unavailable to play for the Melbourne Stars in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League. With that, the team has decided to sign Andre Fletcher as a replacement for the 31-year-old player.
Fletcher was easily signed up by the team as he has been in New Zealand with the West Indies T20 squad. As he signs up with the Stars, he will also be teammates with his fellow West Indies player Nicholas Pooran.
In an official statement, Fletcher said, ‘I'm really looking forward to coming over to the Melbourne Stars and being part of what should be an exciting season ahead. Hopefully, I can bring my brand of batting and recent form to the Stars during the BBL’.
Confident about having signed Fletcher, Melbourne Stars head coach David Hussey said, ‘We're naturally disappointed as Jonny won't be able to link up with us this season but we wish him well on his recall and England's winter tours’.
‘Andre is a former T20 World Cup winner with the West Indies so he knows what it takes to succeed in major tournaments and I'm confident he'll be a great asset around our group’, he added.
Fletcher is very much experienced in the T20 format as he had already played more than 200 domestic matches around the world. This is because of the fact that he also has experiences in playing in the Caribbean Premier League, the Canadian GT20, Pakistan Super League, as well as the Bangladesh Premier League.
The 33-year-old player will stay with the Stars until the season ends on January 26. The BBL is scheduled to start on December 10 in a match between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Sydney Sixers. So far, the odds for the first game are -144.93 for the Sixers and +110 for the Hurricanes. To learn more about the odds of other upcoming matches, visit Betwala.
