Former cricketer Andrew McDonald was appointed to be the Australian cricket team’s assistant coach. He will work with head coach Justin Langer for coaching the national side. The 38-year-old also has a coaching position in the Indian Premier League and the new league The Hundred.
Cricket Australia’s (CA) Executive General Manager of National Teams Ben Oliver expressed his excitement for McDonald to work with the national cricket team. He praised him for his background in the sport as the team’s tactical all-rounder. He also recognised his experience in coaching. Oliver believes that the team will boost during his tenure.
‘We were fortunate to have a strong list of candidates to choose from and I would personally like to thank all those who applied for the position of Senior Assistant Coach along with Cricket Victoria for their support of Andrew’, Oliver said.
Justin Langer complimented the new assistant coach and trusts his skills in coaching. ‘He is also a wonderful competitor, which Australian fans saw first hand throughout his career with the national team, Victoria and South Australia, as well as the Renegades, Strikers and Thunder’, he said.
