Sri Lanka has called upon one of their best weapons in the game to play in their upcoming T20I series with India.
Veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews has returned to the team since his 18-month absence from the T20I format. Sri Lanka is set to battle India in a three-match series starting this January 5th and the team has named a 16-man squad that will travel to India.
Mathews last played for the team back in August 2018 in their battle against South Africa in Colombo. Bringing the veteran means a lot for the team as they are short on experience as the T20 World Cup comes within 10 months.
Sri Lanka lost its last T20I series in their Australia tour despite playing with a full-strength squad. The team, however, has managed to come up with a win over the Shaheens in their home ground.
Lasith Malinga remains to be the captain for the T20I format. He is set to keep the role until the T20 World Cup in Australia this year. Having Mathews in his squad means that the captain will have to lead the charge if they are to come up with a win against the Men in Blue.
