BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has formally announced that Asia Cup 2020 has been cancelled this year.
Prior to the BCCI’s meeting with the Asian Cricket Council, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has formally announced the cancellation of Asia Cup 2020 in an Instagram chat. The other boards, like the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, however, have not been aware of the decision which has been made.
Stating no comment about Ganguly’s announcement, BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, ‘As far as I am concerned ACC management is working on Asia Cup 2020. They are also exploring other options if the tournament cannot be hosted on scheduled time’.
As per Ganguly, ‘It's difficult to say which will be India's first international series. We've done our preparations but we can't do much till we know the government rules. We are not in a hurry because the health of players is of the utmost importance. We are monitoring things monthly’.
Meanwhile, Ganguly also added that the resumption of the Indian Premier League remains uncertain for this season. This is mainly because of the fact that there is still no official announcement from the ICC about the resumption of the T20 World Cup.
