Australia Head Coach Langer on Leeds Loss

The Leeds Test was the third Test match of the Ashes 2019 series

Australia head coach Justin Langer talks about the team’s loss in the recent Test match against England. Australia lost by one wicket in the game. Langer also defends skipper Tim Paine’s performance in the recent Test. The head coach also insists that the team will do better in the remaining Tests of this year’s Ashes series.

‘Whether you’re the captain or the coach or a senior player, you’ve got to get up’, said Langer. ‘We will be disappointed for a day or a night. We might not talk much about it for a day perhaps. But when we get back on it tomorrow, we’ll review it, like we do every game, and we’ll review it together. Make sure we get it better next time’.

Langer also praises Ben Stokes’ performance in the recent Test. Stokes was Player of the Match, scoring an impressive 135 for England. The Leeds Test was missed by Australia’s star player Steve Smith. Smith was injured during the previous Test match by one of Archer’s bouncers. He did not play in Leeds Test because of his concussion. He is expected to play in the next Test match of the Ashes series. However, Langer did not confirm nor deny Smith’s comeback in the tournament.

‘Well, we’ll work that out. Actually, there are some big questions to look at. One thing I do know is that we aren’t batting well at the moment. I said this at the start of the series that the team who bats better will win the Ashes’, Langer stated. Smith is one of Australia’s best batsmen in the tournament, along with Marnus Labuschagne.

‘Well, we’ve got ten days left and a game to play against Derbyshire. Plenty to play for’, the Aussie head coach continued. ‘One more wicket and we would have been 2-0 up, and would have felt pretty good about ourselves but that's sport. We'll pick ourselves up’.

Australia won the opening Test match of the Ashes 2019 series by 251 runs. The second Test at Lord’s ended with a draw. This makes both teams tied in the tournament as England won the recent Test match. The fourth Test of this year’s Ashes starts on September 4 and will continue until September 9. The future match odds are for England (-140.85) to win against Australia (+120). Check out more odds on different matches and tournaments at Betwala.
