Shakib al Hasan rested while Mashrafe Mortaza continues to play.
Bangladesh is resting all-rounder Shakib al Hasan to prepare for the ODIs they are to play against Sri Lanka. However, Mashrafe Mortaza will still be part of the team. Other players who are rested include batsman Liton Das, for personal reasons, and medium-pace bowler Abu Jayed. To fill in their slots, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam and top-order batsman Anamul Haque were recalled.
“Now that the World Cup chapter is over and we are starting a new season, this series is very important to us,” said former captain Minjahul Abedin Nannu. “We didn’t make big changes from the World Cup squad here. As we don’t have Shakib and Liton, we included two players in their places and dropped one player.”
During the course of the world cup, Mashrafe was only able to claim one wicket in eight games. He shouldered the weight of the team despite their subpar performance. Because of this, the BCB still has faith in him.
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will play three one-day internationals on July 26, 28, and 31, at the Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo.
With the World Cup over, the teams have started their rebuilding process to prepare for their respective Tests, T20s, and ODIs against other nations' teams. To find out more about the different cricket leagues, visit Betwala's page.
