The opener of the South Africa team, Temba Bavuma, was ruled out of the first T20I match against Australia after suffering an injury.
On Sunday, February 16, Temba Bavuma sustained a hamstring strain while fielding for the third T20I match between South Africa and England. The match concluded with a victory for the English team by 5 wickets. This enabled the visiting team to seal the T20I series with an overall of 2-1.
Due to the injury, Bavuma was advised to take rest for 7 to 10 days. He is set to travel with the team but is being observed by the medical staff of South Africa.
The opening batsman will be available for the second T20I match on February 23 at the St. George’s Park Cricket Ground in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
In his absence, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock might be the batting openers. De Kock has previously opened for the IPL franchise team Chennai Super Kings.
