Seven Indian players are being requested to take part in the upcoming Asia XI vs World XI T20I series.
Just recently, India announced the players that would make up their white-ball team for the upcoming three-match ODI and T20I series against the West Indies. Again, hopes of MS Dhoni playing have been revived and squashed when the player’s names were revealed. Unsurprisingly, Dhoni wasn’t on the list. Fans of the player will have to wait for the start of the IPL to see if he will play for the Chennai Super Kings.
However, it may not take that long to see Dhoni play cricket. According to a report, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allow seven of its top players to take part in the two ‘Asia XI vs World XI’ T20Is. It will be held on March 18 and 20, 2020 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Dhoni is one of the players being requested by the BCB to play together with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ravindra Jadeja. BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhary said in an interview that ‘Yes, Bangladesh is scheduled to host two T20 Internationals between Asia XI and Rest of the World. We are in touch with BCCI and other cricket boards of the Asian region to allow their players to be part of these two games’.
The tournament is also a celebration of the birth centenary of the country’s founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was also the first and second Prime Minister of Bangladesh. BCB President Nazmul Hossain Papon said that he will try to get the best cricketers in the world.
The ‘Asia XI vs World XI’ will make use of the shortest format in cricket, the T20I. To find out more about this and the other cricket formats, visit Betwala’s page.
