Ben Stokes says that he understands why Joe Root lost a lot of sleep due to the captaincy role in the English team.
Temporary team captain Ben Stokes somehow feels relieved that Joe Root will return and lead the team in their second Test match. England may have lost during the first Test match under Stokes’ captaincy but he firmly believes that it didn’t change him as a player.
During his brief captaincy, Stokes said that he stands by his decision of leaving out Stuart Broad even if many were against it. He says, ‘I stand by my decision. If I didn't, what type of message does it give to the guys we picked? It was a very tough call to leave someone like Stuart out. His record is obviously phenomenal. But we made a call before a ball was bowled that I felt the pace was going to be more beneficial in the long run to us winning this game’.
In an interview of Broad, the player shared how he was frustrated and angry to have been left out of the team. Despite the outrage, Stokes had been pleased by his reaction because of the fact that it reflected how passionate Broad was to play.
England lost the first Test against the West Indies. However, there may still be some changes on the upcoming games once captain Joe Root returns. So far, the odds of the next Test match are -625 for England and +380 for the West Indies. To check how the odds to progress, stay updated with Betwala.
