Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out of the Test squad because of injury
India death bowler Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out of the Test squad against the Proteas on October. The BCCI announced on Tuesday that he suffered a minor stress fracture in his lower back. His injury was discovered during a routine medical check-up
‘Jasprit Bumrah has sustained a minor stress fracture in his lower back and has been ruled out of the upcoming series for Gandhi-Mandela Trophy against South Africa’, said BCCI in a statement.
He is now required to undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
The bowler’s absence in the Test squad will affect India’s chances in the match series. But former pacer Chetan Sharma said that Bumrah shouldn’t be pressured to play for the team and should be rested.
‘The team management should asses the conditions, play spinners and rest Bumrah. Ultimately India needs to win Test matches and on Indian tracks, it doesn’t matter whether Ashwin takes wickets or Kuldeep or Bumrah’.
‘ I think he should be rested. We should not waste a talent like him. There’s a reason why he’s the best bowler in the world now, we shouldn’t test him in these conditions at all’, added Sharma.
‘We have one of the best bowling line-ups in the world. We have Kumar, Shami, Ishant, Navdeep is also there, so give them chances, why put pressure only on Bumrah alone? He should be called only when it’s absolutely necessary’.
Bumrah is replaced by Umesh Yadav in the squad. Yadav’s last game for India was December 2018. He played 41 matches and a 119 wicket grab at an average of 33.7.
India will play their first Test match in Vishakhapatnam on October 2. Test is the longest format of cricket. To know more about cricket formats, read articles on Betwala.
