Cricket Australia opens a new job that is directly aimed at improving the mental health and the wellbeing of their players.
There is a higher need to oversee the mental health of the players and staff as the COVID-19 situation had taken a huge toll on people’s lives. With that, Cricket Australia has decided to have someone who will work for the said matter.
Whoever would be assigned to the said role would have to oversee those who are a part of the national team, the W/BBL clubs, as well as other Australian cricket endeavours. They will also be in charge of conducting more research so as to help the CA have a better performance.
CA’s high-performance chief Drew Ginn explained how it is important to prioritise mental health and how it would be best to reinforce their current psychologists with their teams. Aside from that, he said, ‘The new Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead will give a greater focus on mental health at Cricket Australia, giving us an individual resource dedicated to this area. The role will also provide broader case management support for CA contracted players’.
‘This role is more important than ever, particularly in a world where mental health issues continue to be prevalent, particularly with the demands of elite cricket, COVID and all of the uncertainty. It's crucial for us to provide the right support and environment for our players, coaches and staff, and this builds on fantastic work being done by Michael Lloyd and Peter Clarke’, he added.
