Cricket South Africa clarifies the situation regarding Dale Steyn.
Dale Steyn’s name wasn’t among South Africa’s team that was going to tour India. Earlier this year, he announced his retirement from the Test format of the game in order to focus on white-ball cricket. Injuries were one of the reasons he decided to retire from Test cricket. This being the case, the news of him not being selected to play for South Africa’s T20I team came as a shock.
Steyn recently questioned the decision of him not being selected to be part of the team. To address this, Cricket South Africa recently issued a statement, stating that Steyn was not ‘medically ready’. He had been on the sidelines ever since he injured his shoulder in April while playing in the Indian Premier League. He was also part of the World Cup team but didn’t play and was eventually ruled out of the tournament.
Cricket South Africa acting director Corrie van Zyl said that ‘He is not yet medically ready and our information makes that very clear’. He also said that both Vernon Philander and Theunis de Bruyn will recover in time before the start of the Test-series. ‘Both are on track, but they will have to play one match before the tour to prove that they are fully fit’.
The South Africa will begin in September and will last until October. To find out more about this and other upcoming matches and tournaments, visit Betwala’s page.
