Jason Roy has opted out of the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2020 due to personal reasons and will be replaced by Daniel Sams.
Jason Roy has been ruled out of England’s upcoming T20I series against Pakistan due to a side strain that he had incurred during the training. After being ruled out of the game, it became definite that he will not be able to attend this year’s IPL 2020. With that, his IPL team Delhi Capitals has decided to replace him with Australian player Daniel Sams.
An official statement from the ECB has confirmed Roy’s unavailability for their current tour. However, he will stay with the English squad to undergo rehabilitation. Should he be able to regain his good condition, then he might still be a part of their limited-overs tour against Australia.
As a scan had confirmed Roy’s injury, the Delhi Capitals chose Sams to replace Roy in their lineup. Sams is currently in England to take part in Australia’s squad. After the said series, he will join the Delhi Capitals for the start of IPL 2020 which is slated to start on September 19.
As per Sams, ‘The IPL is a huge platform for any cricketer, and back home, we all follow the tournament extremely closely every year. I feel fortunate to be a part of it this year, and I'm thankful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this opportunity. I can't wait to join the rest of the players in the UAE’.
Sams is just about to have his international debut on Australia’s upcoming tour in England. With regards to his playing experience, he has already played for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League where he happened to be the highest wicket-taker last season. Now, it will be his first time to play for the IPL. To learn more about this prestigious league, visit Betwala.
