New Zealand players Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips have both been granted central contracts by New Zealand Cricket for 2021-2022.
Allrounder Daryl Mitchell and batsman Glenn Phillips have both made an impression on the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) with their outstanding national-level performances. With that, the two of them have been granted central contracts that make them the newest members of the 20 men group of the New Zealand team.
Mitchell is known for having registered a Test ton and an ODI ton in the past year. Meanwhile, Phillips is known for being a consistent part of New Zealand’s T20I squad. He also made a century on the said format.
Talking about the granting of contracts for the two amazing players, NZC chief selector Gavin Larsen said, ‘There’s no question Daryl and Glenn took their games to another level over the summer and have added to the growing depth of talent we now enjoy’.
‘After such a successful summer in which we used a variety of players across the three formats, there was always going to be a squeeze on for positions and, unfortunately, Ajaz has been a victim of that success’, he added.
Ajaz Patel, another impressive player, has been left out of the 20-man list for 2021-2022. This was because of his calf injury that made him unavailable to make it back to the team during the summer. Still, as Larsen had stated, the board is aware of Patel’s value as a frontline spinner and that they continue to think of him to be a part of their future plans.
Here are the names of those who received a national contract. Namely: Tom Blundell, Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, James Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, Kane Williamson, and Will Young.
