English player Dawid Malan has joined the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2020-2021 season of the Big Bash League.
ICC T20 top batsman Dawid Malan has chosen his team in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League in Australia. After having signed with the Hobart Hurricanes, it will be Malan’s first time to play for the Australian league.
Amid the uncertainty of other English players in being a part of the BBL, Malan has already decided to sign with the Hurricanes who happen to be without Jofra Archer. With that, he will join the likes of D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade in the team. In fact, there is a possibility that he will be placed somewhere in the team’s top three order.
Talking about his signing with the team, Malan said, ‘The Big Bash is recognised as one of the leading T20 leagues in the world, and I'm excited to be joining the Hurricanes. I love the whole ethos of Australian sport, and really enjoy playing in front of Aussie crowds’.
In response, Hobart Hurricanes head coach Adam Griffith says, ‘I'm very excited to have someone of Dawid's talent and experience join the team. He is a proven performer at T20 cricket on the international stage and I'm looking forward to seeing him hopefully replicate that for the Hurricanes’.
‘I spent some time with him when he was playing at Middlesex and he will fit into our group very well’, he added.
It will be Malan’s first time to play for the BBL as he had already formerly played for domestic cricket leagues in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and South Africa. One factor that had him signed for the BBL was when he showed an outstanding performance in the Australia tour of England which took place this summer.
The upcoming season of the BBL will take place in Adelaide starting December 3. To learn more about the Hobart Hurricanes and the league itself, head over to Betwala.
