The South African batsman was struck on his helmet by a bouncer made by Yadav

South African Cricket Team batsman Dean Elgar was retired hurt after he was struck by a bouncer delivered by Indian bowler Umesh Yadav. As the ball struck his helmet, he started to show signs of discomfort and fell to the ground. The Men in Blue players immediately rushed to check him.

The incident happened before Tea on the third day of the final Test match against India in Ranchi. The left-handed batsman required treatment. Team member Theunis de Bruyn was called to be his concussion substitute along with Heinrich Klaasen.

It was the second time that a team used a concussion substitute. During this year’s Ashes, the same incident happened after Steve Smith was struck by Jofra Archer’s bouncer.

The South African Cricket Team is now on the brink of defeat in the Test series. They were bowled out for 162 in the first innings as India declared 497 for 9.

The fourth day of the Test series is scheduled to be played today. India (+1) has the favourable odds to win against South Africa (+2400). Check out the latest cricket odds on Betwala.
