The Bangladeshi skipper was suspended by the ICC for failing to report match fixing approaches
Commentator and former Australian cricketer Dean Jones lauded Shakib Al Hasan’s statement after receiving a two-year suspension. The Bangladesh skipper was banned by the ICC after failing to report multiple approaches of match-fixing by a bookie named Deepak Aggarwal. He agreed to the sanction given to him after the Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing.
Following his suspension, Al Hasan prepared a statement ‘I am sad that I have let down the sport I love the most. I accept the ICC charge of not having reported an unlawful approach. Cricketers need to cooperate with the ICC in keeping the sport clean. I have failed in my responsibility towards ensuring that. I want cricket to be clean, just like the countless fans and other players’.
Al Hasan said that he wants to set a good example for young cricketers. Despite his ban, he will keep cooperating with the ICC. He thanked his fans, the BCB and other people who stayed by his side in good times and bad times.
Dean Jones took to Twitter to praise Al Hasan’s statement. ‘Classy response by Shakib! Great words and messages. Best of luck to him. Everyone from players, coaches, umpires and even commentators… MUST report if they feel they have had an approach.. no matter how silly it might sound’, Jones wrote.
Shakib Al Hasan was named as skipper of the Bangladesh Cricket Team for their upcoming tour in India. However, he was dropped due to his suspension. The tour starts with a T20I series that will begin on November 3. India (-833.33) has greater odds than Bangladesh (+560) in the first T20I match. Check out the latest cricket odds on Betwala.
