The Chennai Super Kings have lost all of their matches played so far in IPL 2022. To make matters worse, their star bowler Deepak Chahar is not available to join the team until April 25, and by then half of the league group games will be done and dusted.
Fast bowler Chahar, who was bought by the four-time champions for a whopping Rs 14 crore in the IPL auction, expected to return to action on April 25 and play the clash against Punjab Kings.
Chahar suffered a quad tear during the limited-overs series against West Indies in November and was subsequently ruled out of the white-ball series against Sri Lanka and the first half of IPL 2022. He is currently in rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
CSK, being led by new skipper Ravindra Jadeja, started their campaign this season with a comprehensive loss to KKR. This was followed by a loss to Lucknow Super Giants in their second game, and another loss to Punjab Kings in the third game.
“Deepak is our main bowler, we hope that he can join us soon. When he comes the team's bowling unit will get stronger. It is always important to take early wickets in Powerplay. As a bowling unit we have to take 2-3 wickets in the Powerplay. We are missing Deepak,” Jadeja told reporters after losing the game to Punjab Kings.
The Super Kings’ next assignment is against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 9. Given that the Sunrisers have also played poor cricket so far in the tournament, CSK will be eyeing their first win of the season against them.
