Kuldeep Yadav says Dhoni and Kohli are the backbones of Team India
Indian bowler Kuldeep Yadav explained that former captain MS Dhoni and current captain Virat Kohli are their team’s backbone.
“Both Kohli and Dhoni are the backbone of our team. Dhoni gives us freedom and Kohli boosts our confidence,” said Yadav in an exclusive interview with The Times of India (TOI).
Dhoni was the team’s captain from 2007 to 2017 where he led the team successfully in various matches. He passed the captaincy to right-handed batsman Kohli in 2017 before their England home series.
Despite leaving the team, Yadav states that Dhoni still helps the team in various departments and events.
“When I bowl, I find it difficult to set the field sometimes. I look at Mahi bhai and he understands immediately that I need his help. He comes up to me and helps me.”
Yadav furthered that Dhoni has been helping him practice bowling certain lengths to get the better of a batsman.
“Mahi bhai understands a batsman’s body language quickly and then he tells us the areas where we should bowl to him. And it often works in our favour,” explains Yadav.
“It’s not just me, he helps every bowler in the team. I would say when in doubt, reach out to Dhoni. He has a solution for every problem. Everyone looks up to him (Dhoni)”, he continued.
Yadav added they have a high chance of winning the World Cup under Kohli’s guidance.
“Definitely, the way the team is performing under Kohli. I am sure we will win the title in England.”
The Men in Blue will have their first match on June 5 against South Africa at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.
