England captain Eoin Morgan will have to miss out on the final two ODIs against India because of an injury he sustained.
English team captain Eoin Morgan has been ruled out from the team’s next two games after having sustained a hand injury in their first ODI against India. Aside from him, Sam Billings will also be unavailable for the team on the second ODI against the Men in Blue as he continues to recover from his collar bone injury.
During the first ODI held last Tuesday, Morgan split the webbing between his thumb and index finger in the late innings of the game. He had four stitches done for the said injury. After taking part in a fielding drill on Thursday at the MCA Stadium, he declared himself to be unfit for their next games.
He said, ‘I had the hand re-dressed before the start of training today but it quickly became apparent that I found myself protecting the injury and getting into the wrong positions to catch the ball’.
‘There's nowhere to hide on the field in international cricket these days, especially in limited-over formats so it didn't require any great thought to make myself unavailable. It was a freak injury and it's extremely frustrating but there's nothing I can do about it. It's now just a case of letting the cut heal. I have every confidence in Jos and the rest of the squad coping without me’, he added.
Meanwhile, Billings also did not train on Thursday as his injury remained sore. To date, it is still unclear if he can be available for the third ODI on Sunday. So far, Dawid Malan has already been drafted into the squad.
With Morgan’s unavailability for the game, Jos Buttler will be England’s acting captain. To know more about how ODIs are played, head over to Betwala.
