Eoin Morgan says they can use any of their fast bowlers in matches
England team captain Eoin Morgan believes that they will have to adapt well to their upcoming game against Pakistan today in order to have a better chance of winning.
“We’ll have to adapt to anything the wicket throws up. If there is anything to exploit, hopefully we’ll select the right team,” said the batsman in an interview at Trent Bridge last Sunday.
Morgan continued that he believes they can use any of their fast-bowlers like Jofra Archer and Mark Wood for the tournament, although he thinks that staying in their winning formula from their first match against South Africa is better. However, he thinks that pairing 90 mph fast bowler and paceman Archer with right-arm fast bowler Wood is exciting.
“It is exciting. It’s like saying can you add a Jayson Roy 180 to a Jos Buttler 150 off 70 or 80 balls — it might happen and if it does that would be awesome,” stated Morgan.
Speaking of home team, they have set two world records for the highest score in one-day international (ODI). First was when they played against Pakistan in 2016 and set 444 for three. Second world record was in a match against Australia in 2018 where they achieved a 500-run barrier with 481 for six. Due to these records, Morgan believes the team would have to play really well in the tournament.
“To get something near that you need to play unbelievably well. It starts with the very basics with getting yourself into an innings and each batter starting and trying to establish a partnership,” he added.
Morgan continued that the team is preparing their best for their upcoming match with Pakistan because of the Shaheen’s skills.
“Only two years ago they were the best side in the Champions Trophy, they turned us over, they turned India over. We’ll be preparing as best we can for their A-game.”
