The South African captain plays in the last part of Vitality Blast 2019
Faf du Plessis will play with Kent Spitfires in the duration of the Vitality Blast tournament this year. The T20 league tournament started last July and will continue until September 21. Du Plessis will play for Kent’s two South Division matches. The team will face teams Gloucestershire and Essex Eagles. If Kent wins either or both of the matches, they will advance to the tournament’s knockout rounds. The South African captain will play in the knockout rounds if the team advances,
Du Plessis signed with the team after bowler Adam Milne’s ankle injury that ruled him out of the tournament. The South African cricket player was initially expected to play in the Euro T20 slam. The tournament was cancelled, giving du Plessis a chance to play in the Vitality Blast 2019.
‘I really look forward to joining up with Kent for the last part of the Vitality Blast’, said du Plessis. ‘I will do my best to contribute to the already successful team and hopefully help them lift a trophy. I have played with some of the squad members in the past and look forward to joining up with all the guys again’.
Paul Downton, director of Kent cricket, commented on du Plessis’ signing with the team. ‘We’re really excited to be able to bring in a world-class player such as Faf for the rest of the Vitality Blast,’ he said. ‘He is a world-class batsman and, along with his leadership skills, he will be a major asset to our young side, as we seek to progress to the quarter-finals and beyond in this year’s competition’.
The Vitality Blast is the 15th season of the T20 Blast. This year’s tournament is called Vitality Blast because of a new sponsorship deal.
