First T20I Match Between India and South Africa Called Off

The match was abandoned within an hour of the scheduled start time

The first Twenty20 International match between India and South Africa in Dharamshala was called off due to non-stop rain. Weather reports said that there will be threats of rain in the afternoon. Ahead of the match, rain showers also interrupted India’s practice session.

The weather on the day of the first T20I match remained the same. Despite the weather forecast, the crowd poured into the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.

Rain showered in the afternoon and continued until the official time of the toss. The entire ground was immediately covered. Spectators started to complain about the weather and the possibility of the match to be called off.

Officials announced that the match is cancelled nearly 50 minutes after the official start time of 7 pm IST. ‘The rains continue and the match has officially been called off. See you in Chandigarh for the 2nd T20I’, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote on Twitter.

A lot of spectators were drenched in rain and disappointed about the match being washed out. There is no official word about the refunding of tickets.
