The practise match between the two teams was also delayed by rain
India and South Africa’s Test series commenced yesterday at Visakhapatnam. The Men in Blue won the toss and was opted to bat. It was a good start for the home team as Rohit Sharma, the opener, hit a massive 115 which contributed to their score of 202 for 0.
Rohit made a partnership with Mayank Agarwal. The two players stitched a 200-run stand on the Day 1 of the Test match. They both scored an unbeaten number of runs in this match. Spectators were awed at Rohit’s score. It was the first time that he batted as the opener for Tests after he was named by the board of selectors.
However, after tea, the match was impossible to happen due to a sudden rain shower. The covers were placed on the field. South Africa failed to bat as the rain continued in the area. Rain also interrupted the practise match between the Proteas and the Indian Board President’s XI. The match was delayed and will continue today for the second day of the first Test.
