Lyon can catch up to Warne in the future and take more wickets
Shane Warne believes that fellow Aussie Nathan Lyon can catch up to his record of 708 wickets. Warne is one of two cricket players to take more than 700 wickets in Test cricket. The other one is Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralidharan. Warne is a leg spinner who used to play for Australia. He believes that Nathan Lyon will eventually set a new record someday.
‘I think he (Lyon) has a chance. If you do the stats - if he plays another 85 or 90 Tests, and takes four wickets per game, that’s 360 wickets - so he’ll get me’, said Warne. The 31-year-old spinner has already taken 357 wickets in 89 Tests. Warne is confident on Lyon’s chance of setting a new record in Test cricket.
Former spinner Warne also thinks that Lyon is less likely to get injured on the field because of his off-spin bowling. He adds that Lyon should continue to be hungry for the game in order to become the new highest Australian wicket-taker in history.
Nathan Lyon played for Australia in the recent Leeds Test of the ongoing Ashes series. Australia was defeated in the recent match against England, their first loss on this year’s Ashes. Lyon is expected to play again in the upcoming Test of the series at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. This is the fourth Test match of the ongoing Ashes series, with both teams having won one match each. The odds are for England (-135.14) to win the Ashes 2019 series against Australia (+114).
