The former cricketer said that the BCCI should talk to MS Dhoni about his future plans
Former opener Gautam Gambhir expressed his opinion about MS Dhoni’s future plans. According to him, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should speak to him about his future.
‘I have always said that the decision to retire is anyone’s personal call. I feel the selectors should talk to Dhoni and ask him about his plans because if you play for India, you cannot select the series you want to play’, Gambhir said.
Fans haven’t seen MS Dhoni since the Men in Blue’s exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He made himself unavailable on the West Indies tour and the recent home series against the Proteas.
Gambhir also said that the team management should be patient with Rishabh Pant. The young player from the Men in Blue was named as the wicketkeeper during the West Indies tour. However, Pant received a lot of criticisms due to his poor shots on the first two matches of the T20I series against the Windies. Currently, he is still on the wicketkeeping position for the home series against South Africa.
‘I feel if you focus solely on a young player, who has been in the international arena for just around a year, he will feel the pressure. In such a short time, he (Pant) has smashed two Test tons. If you don’t find his shot selections ideal, it is his style of play. If you give him a chance in the team then kindly back him and it is wrong to criticize him so early’, Gambhir added.
The Men in Blue is scheduled to compete against the Proteas in the Test series. India (-476.19) has the favourable odds to win against South Africa (+370). Check out the latest cricket odds on Betwala.
