The ‘Terminator’ believes that Ashwin could be a big help to the team, even in T20s.
Harbhajan Singh and Ravi Ashwin could be considered as life-long competitors, but that doesn’t mean that each wishes the best for the other. Singh believes that Ashwin deserves a second chance to play in India’s white-ball team.
Ashwin, who is a regular player in Test matches, has not been playing in white-ball cricket despite featuring in the IPL every year. In his most recent games, Ashwin played well against South Africa and took five wickets in their first Test match against Bangladesh. It remains to be seen if he will be selected to be part of the T20I and ODI squads to play against the West Indies.
Ashwin has over 200 wickets combined in ODIs and T20Is. However, he last played in these formats back in June and July of 2017. In an interview, Harbhajan spoke out about Ashwin’s bowling. ‘If you are looking to bowl a spinner up front which Sundar has been doing in T20s, you rather have a wicket-taker, which Ashwin is. Why not give him a chance? He has also done a good job with the red ball recently’.
‘Ashwin spins the ball, he has got more variations. Someone like Sundar needs to learn. I want him to do well. I am all for blooding in youngsters but they must learn else they will be replaced, considering the stiff competition’.
Harbhajan Singh used to play for India’s Men’s International Cricket Team and was a member of the World Cup-winning team of 2011. To find out more about India’s upcoming matches, visit Betwala’s page.
