Glenn Maxwell will miss out on the upcoming ODIs and T20Is against South Africa due to elbow surgery.
While Glenn Maxwell is undergoing his surgery for his left elbow, D’Arcy Short will replace him in both ODI and T20I squads.
According to Cricket Australia, Maxwell is anticipated to come back after six to eight weeks before he can return playing cricket. This indicated that he will miss out on the start of the IPL which will start at the end of March.
Maxwell informed the medical staff of the Australian team that he has been managing the pain in his elbow, which gradually increased during the weekend. Then, Cricket Victoria’s Dr Trefor James, Australian team’s Dr Richard Saw and a Melbourne specialist surgeon reviewed his elbow.
It was revealed in scans that he has some loose bone fragments in the elbow joint. Today, Maxwell will go through arthroscopic surgery.
National selector, Trevor Hohns said, ‘We are disappointed to lose Glenn this close to the tour as we were looking forward to welcoming him back to the national side in both the 20- and 50-over formats after his break during the summer'.
He continued, ‘Unfortunately, the pain he has experienced in the elbow in the latter stages of the BBL increased over the weekend and he will have surgery immediately to rectify the situation’.
