Reports say that unpaid wages were the cause for the delay.
The match between the Toronto Nationals and the Montreal Tigers was delayed for two hours. Players and staff from both sides refused to board the buses that were to take them to their match. Reports said that the teams were unhappy because of unpaid wages. To avoid confusion, the Global T20 released a statement clarifying that the players not being paid their salaries was the cause of the delay.
“The game between Montreal Tigers and Toronto Nationals on Wednesday, August 7th, 2019, was delayed due to procedural issues between the players, the GT20 league, and the franchise owners. All the stakeholders had a meeting and addressed the concerns.”
The game was important for Toronto Nationals, who went on to defeat the Tigers by 35 runs. The Nationals, batting first, scored 189/5 after 20 overs. Rodrigo Thomas started their innings by scoring 70 runs, then Heinrich Klaasen added 64 off just 34 balls.
The Tigers tried their best, scoring 154/all out. Matthew Cross and Dinseh Chandimal were the only two batsmen who put up impressive numbers, 39 and 36 runs respectively.
