The player stated that despite circulating rumours, Courtney Walsh is not his father.
Right-arm spinner from West Indies, Hayden Walsh, had a great playing season in the Caribbean Premier League. In the nine games he has played during the T20 tournament, he took 22 wickets. He was selected to be part of the team that would play the T20 series against India mainly due to his excellent performance with the ball. There was confusion about who his father was which he cleared up after the second T20 match.
The bowler had an overall excellent performance in Trivandrum and registered brilliant bowling figures of 2/28. He took the wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube, both of whom had scored 54 off 30 balls. He was also one of the reasons why India only scored 170 runs.
During the match, people were asking Hayden Walsh on social media if his father was the great Courtney Walsh. He was asked again during the post-match conference, to which he replied that he isn’t the son of the former great despite having the same surname. He then recalled a similarly funny incident that took place during the Canada T20 league.
‘I was playing in the Canada T20 league and someone called me Courtney Walsh (laughs). So yeah. People my father is not Courtney Walsh. But I guess now they will now find out who I am and who is my father... Yeah, it has been like a roller-coaster ride for me. As you can see, I have been working hard trying to find my way to the top into international cricket. Just to be here and perform in a game is just. I am over the moon’.
Currently, the West Indies will face India in their final T20 match. This will then be followed by three ODIs against the same team. To find out more about the West Indies’ upcoming matches, visit Betwala’s page.
