This will be their first Test match in Lahore, Pakistan since 2009
It is hard for the Sri Lanka national cricket team to visit Pakistan again for Test cricket after they were attacked in the country last 2009. While Sri Lanka was on their way to play a Test match against Pakistan, the team was attacked by twelve gunmen in Lahore, Pakistan. Since then, the team has not visited Pakistan to play Test cricket again. There are plans for both teams to play Test cricket again this year. Sri Lanka and Pakistan were to play the Test match at a neutral venue. This year, there is a high chance of Sri Lanka finally playing Test cricket again in Pakistan.
‘The feedback we got from the security team was very positive. We’ll be talking to the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) about some alternatives before we arrive at a decision. The government will be consulted as well,’ said SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) CEO Ashley de Silva.
Only one Test match is planned for both teams as of the moment. This Test match is a part of the new ICC World Test Championship 2019-21. The World Test features the top cricket teams in the world right now. These teams also played against each other in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
