The second ODI is rescheduled to be played today after being called off
It is the first time that Pakistan will host a cricket event after the terrorist attack in Lahore in 2009 where the Sri Lanka Cricket Team’s bus was attacked by rebel groups. The incident caused eight deaths which involved civilians and police. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked everyone to support the revival of international cricket in their country.
Non-stop rains delayed the first ODI match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the National Stadium in Karachi. It was scheduled on September 27. Since the field is covered with water, it is impossible that a match will be played. The PCB also decided to reschedule the 2nd ODI to September 30 which was originally scheduled on the 29th.
With the sudden turn of events, the International Cricket Council (ICC) mocked the decision of the PCB.
The ICC tweeted. ‘The second ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Karachi has been rescheduled from Sunday 29 September to Monday 30 September due to the rain which washed out the first ODI. Have you ever heard of rain so heavy it washes out a game two days away?!’.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan will play the third ODI on Wednesday, October 2 at the same venue. Following the ODI series, the T20I series will follow. Matches will be held at the Gaddafi Stadium.
