Aside from the T20 World Cup, the ICC World Test Championship also faces the possibility of being postponed amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The 2021 ICC Test World Cup Finals also faces a possible delay due to the unexpected outbreak of COVID-19. In fact, the world has faced several match cancellations to ensure the safety of its players and staff. Among which include qualifying matches for the finals of the WTC.
As per the ICC’s most recent report, the finals of the WTC may also be rescheduled or worse, cancelled due to the global pandemic. The qualifying matches for the ICC Test championship began after the last season had been concluded last year. In fact, the final match as to whoever reaches the finals was set in June 2021 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
Due to the delay in the matches, the original schedule of the WTC is expected to be delayed despite being far off in the future. Aside from that, speculations are also going around with regards to a possible postponement or cancellation of the T20 World Cup in Australia. With that, the ICC will hold an online conference to discuss the fate of both events.
As of now, India is on top of the points table of the WTC with 360 points. They are followed by Australia with 296 points and by New Zealand with 180 points. To know more about how Test matches are played, check out Betwala.
