India won against West Indies by 125 runs on Thursday at Old Trafford
India won their 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup match against West Indies on Thursday at Old Trafford Cricket Ground by 125 runs. West Indies scored 143 in 34.2 overs while India scored 268 with 7 in 50 overs.
West Indies bowler Kemar Roach kept India’s score at bay at the start. Roach returned figures of 3-36 in 10 overs including India batsman Rohit Sharma’s wicket for 18. Captain Jason Holder and bowler Sheldon Cottrell took two wickets each off India.
Roach also struck in the sixth over where he caught Sharma behind a delivery. Sharma pitched it to a good length before it jagged sharply into him.
The on-field umpire decided Sharma was not out but Windies asked for a review of the decision. It was assessed that there was a spike in sound when the ball squeezed through the gap between bat and pad. Because of this, Sharma was dismissed off the game.
Meanwhile, India captain Virat Kohli led the attack against Windies with his 72. He was supported by wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni and all-rounder Hardik Pandya who got 70 runs for sixth wicket in the last 10 overs. Pandya got 46 off 38 balls while Dhoni was unbeatable with 56. Pandya and Dhoni ended the innings with a big six.
Kohli knocked 82 balls including eight boundaries before playing a wristy flick for a boundary off Holder. Kohli caught it in midwicket off the next ball. He also partnered with wicketkeeper KL Rahul and got 69 runs in a second wicket-stand.
Team India finished off with Kohli getting 72, Dhoni 56, and Rahul achieved 48. India’s next match will be against England on Sunday at Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
