Men in Blue proves their favourite tag by winning their first match
India starts off their ICC Cricket World Cup campaign with a six wicket win against South Africa on Wednesday at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.
The Proteas batted first and got a total of 228 runs that Team India chased and beat with combined team effort. Indian batsman Rohit Sharma performed with 122 runs followed by fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah quick dismissal of South Africa openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock.
Indian fast bowler Yuzvendra Chahal achieved figures of 4-51 afterwards and Sharma caught a dropped catch of South Africa captain Faf du Plessis at second slip. South African right-arm fast bowler Kagiso Rabada struck early with Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan for eight but failed to corner India’s offense.
Meanwhile Proteas wicket-keeper de Kock caught the ball that sent back India’s captain Virat Kohli back for 18 off South African bowler Andile Phehlukwayo. However, Sharma continued raising the score with an 85-run in third wicket stand with wicket-keeper KL Rahul who got 26.
Sharma achieved his 23rd one-day century when he had a single off with Proteas spin-bowler Tabraiz Shamsi and got 13 fours and two sixes.
Chahal then bowled South African batsman Rassie van der Dussen for 22 with the first ball of his second over before he bowled du Plessis for 38.
Team India won with Sharma winning player of the match with his 122 score above batsman MS Dhoni’s 24 and Rahul’s 26.
India will play their second match against Australia on Sunday at The Oval. Team India currently have +305 odds of winning the World Cup.
