IPL 2021 Gets Suspended Amid COVID-19

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League had to be suspended once more as the COVID-19 situation in India worsens.

The ongoing IPL 2021 is almost halfway through when it had to be postponed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As the COVID-19  situation worsens in India, the board has decided to be put to a halt for the safety of all.

Despite being held in a biosecure bubble, several players from different franchises have tested positive for the virus. Although the reason behind it may remain unknown, it is undeniable that the situation has alarmed all those who were inside the bubble. To ensure the safety of all the players and staff, the BCCI chose to postpone the remainder of the 2021 season like how they did last year.

On their website, the BCCI released a statement that confirmed the postponement of the league. A part of the statement read, ‘The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind’.

‘These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times. The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021’, the statement added.

In the said statement released by the board, they also thanked everyone who was with them during IPL 2021. Still, it is in the following interviews of the officials that they clarified that the league is just postponed and not cancelled. According to them, the league will still push through in due time.

As all the games have been postponed, the Delhi Capitals continue to be on top of the points table with 12 points. To learn more about the league and the teams it comprises, head over to Betwala.
