Pitch report

The match will be played at the MCA stadium in Pune which is known to assist the spin bowlers. The batsmen also enjoy assistance from the pitch. The average first innings score in IPL matches here is 160 runs.

The weather in Pune, meanwhile, will be hot and humid. The temperature at the time of the match will be somewhere near 30 degree Celsius.

Injury update and team news

GT – Only days before the tournament began, England’s Jason Roy opted out due to bio-bubble fatigue and Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz was signed as his replacement. However, instead of Gurbaz, Gujarat played Matthew Wade at the top.

DC – David Warner and Mitchell Marsh will be out of action until at least mid-April. Mustafizur Rahman and Lungi Ngidi, meanwhile, have completed quarantine and are available for this game.

Probable XI for both the teams

Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill, Matthew Wade (wk), Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya (c) Gurkeerat Singh Mann, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammad Shami, R Sai Kishore

Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw, Tim Seifert, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (c/wk), Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, Khaleel Ahmed

Two players to watch out for from both teams

GT – Rashid Khan and Hardik Pandya

Rashid Khan needs little justification to be the player to watch out for in a game of T20 cricket. He is among the best T20 spinners in the world and was a match winner for Sunrisers Hyderabad each season since joining them back in 2017. Rashid is also a fearless hitter of the ball who can play quick knocks down the order.

The other player to watch out for will be new captain Hardik Pandya. The flamboyant Baroda all-rounder is a big hitter and a fast bowler who brings lots of experience to the table. In 93 IPL matches, Hardik has an average of almost 28 and an impressive strike rate of more than 152. With the ball, he has taken 42 wickets.

DC – Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav

Rishabh Pant is currently one of the most flamboyant batsmen in the world across all three formats. In the IPL, Pant has scored 2498 runs at an average of 35 and strike rate of 147. This includes a century and 15 fifties. Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, picked up 3 for 18 against Mumbai Indians in the season opener and overall has 125 wickets in T20 cricket.

Who will win the match between GT and DC?

Delhi Capitals have a better all-round side with depth in both batting and bowling. With Mustafizur Rahman back in the side, Delhi’s bowling looks even stronger. The threat of Rashid Khan, however, will loom large on the Capitals and it will be interesting to see how their batsmen negotiate the spinner’s four overs. But if we are to predict a winner for this game, we will put our money on the Delhi franchise.
