Chennai Super Kings, led by new captain Ravindra Jadeja, lost their third game of IPL 2022 on a trot after being outdone by the Punjab Kings in match 11.
Batting first, the Mayank Agarwal-led Kings put up a total of 180 runs on the board. Liam Livingstone, the franchise’s most expensive buy of this season, scored a 32 ball 60 that was laced with five boundaries and as many maximums. However, he got little support from the rest of his teammates. Captain Agarwal scored only four runs, while his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan chipped in with 33 off 24, which was the second-best knock from the lineup after Livingstone’s innings. However, an eventual score of 180 didn’t appear to be insignificant.
Chasing 181, the Super Kings’ wicket fell like a pack of cards and they were bundled out for 126 in 18 overs. Shivam Dube scored 57 runs, but found little support from the other batsmen as Chennai eventually lost the game by 54 runs.
Rahul Chahar was Punjab’s match-winner with the ball, picking up three wickets for 25 runs in his four overs. Newcomer Vaibhav Arora also picked up two wickets, while another two came from Livingstone. For Chennai, Chris Jordan and Dwaine Pretorius picked up two wickets each.
Punjab are now fourth in the points table with two wins in three games. Chennai are ninth, with three straight losses.
