Match 12 of the IPL 2022 will be played between the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad and the 2022 debutants Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
The Sunrisers lost their tournament opener to the Rajasthan Royals after being unable to chase a total of 211. Five of their batsmen scored in single digits, which includes two ducks, and they will be hoping to start afresh in the next game.
The Super Giants, on the other hand, lost their tournament opener to the Gujarat Titans but made a strong comeback in the second game to defeat the Chennai Super Kings.
Pitch report
The match will be played at the DY Patil stadium, where the first innings score in the first two games of the season has been 205 and 128. Nine out of 10 T20 games played here have been won by the team chasing and thus the toss-winning captain is likely to bowl first.
Injury update and team news
SRH – Fast bowler Kartik Tyagi is available for selection in this game, but is an unlikely choice for the playing XI.
LSG – Marcus Stoinis is set to miss a few more games due to international duty. Jason Holder, meanwhile, is available for selection and Andrew Tye may have to make way for the West Indies all-rounder in the playing XI.
Probable XI for both the teams
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Kane Williamson (c), Nicholas Pooran (wk), Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, Romario Shepherd, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Umran Malik
Lucknow Super Giants: KL Rahul(c), Quinton de Kock(w), Evin Lewis, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Dushmantha Chameera, Jason Holder, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan
Two players to watch out for from both teams
SRH – Nicholas Pooran and Umran Malik
Wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran might have bagged a golden duck in the opening game, but he is still among the players to watch out. The West Indian is currently one of the most fearless T20 batsmen in the world who can change the course of the game with his batting strike rate. Umran Malik, on the other hand, is the speed gun Sunrisers boast of. The young fast bowler picked up two wickets in the first game and will be hoping to keep up the fine momentum.
LSG – KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock
Both the LSG openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock are match-winners with the bat. Rahul, especially, has been among the highest run-scorers in the IPL all the last four seasons, while de Kock produced several quickfire knocks for his previous franchise the Mumbai Indians. He scored a fifty in the previous match for LSG and looked in good form. The South African has a strike rate of 135 and 137 respectively in T20 internationals and other T20s.
Who will win the match between SRH and LSG?
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting was thoroughly disappointing in the first game. Apart from an unbeaten 57 by Aiden Markram and 40 by Washington Sundar, none of the other batsmen could get going. If they want to make a comeback in the second game, the likes of Kane Williamson, Rahul Tripathi, Abdul Samad and others will need to contribute runs. Otherwise going by the squads of both the teams, Lucknow are the clear winners of this contest.
