Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Rajasthan Royals by four wickets in match 13 of IPL 2022.
Batting first, the Sanju Samson-led team posted 169 runs on the board. Jos Buttler was once again the best performer with an unbeaten 70 which was laced with six maximums. His opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, managed to score only four runs. Batting one down, Devdutt Padikkal chipped in with 37 off 29, while big hitting batsman Shimron Hetmyer remained unbeaten on 42 off 31.
Harshal Patel was the best bowler for RCB. The purple cap winner of 2021 was the most economical among his teammates, giving away only 18 runs in his four overs while also picking a wicket. Wanindu Hasaranga and David Willy also picked up a wicket each.
Chasing 170 to win, Bangalore got off to a shaky start. Both their openers got starts but were not able to convert them into significant knocks. While captain Faf du Plessis scored 29, the uncapped Anuj Rawat chipped in with 26. Former captain Virat Kohli's poor form with the bat continued as he managed only five runs, David Willey was out on a duck and Sherfane Rutherford scored another five runs. Just when the match was slipping out of RCB's hands, Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik played match winning knocks to take the team over the line. Karthik scored 44 off 23 while Ahmed hit 45 off 26.
Yuzvendra Chahal was Rajasthan's best bowler with 2 for 15 in his four overs. Prasidh Krishna and Ravichandran Ashwin were the most expensive of the lot, having conceded 40 and 39 runs each.
