The Delhi Capitals put up a clinical performance to beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 44 runs in match 19 of IPL 2022. They were excellent in both the batting and bowling department and dominated the opponents for most part of the game.
Batting first, Delhi put up a score of 215 with their openers giving them a solid start. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw shared 93 runs for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed in the 8th over. Shaw scored 51 off 29 while Warner hit 61 off 45. Batting one down, Captain Rishabh Pant looked good for a big knock, but perished on 27 off 14. Down the order, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur remained unbeaten on 22 and 29 each. Thakur’s innings came at a huge strike rate of 263.64.
Venkatesh Iyer gave away 14 runs in the only over that he bowled. Umesh Yadav and Pat Cummins, both of whom bowled their full quota of four overs, were hit for 48 and 51 runs respectively. Sunil Narine was KKR’s sole warrior with the ball, having picked two wickets at an economy of just 5.25.
Chasing the huge score, KKR lost both their opener early. However, captain Shreyas Iyer bought KKR back into the game with a quickfire half-century. But apart from Iyer, no other batsman could get going as KKR were eventually all out on 171 in 19.4 overs. Kuldeep Yadav picked up four wickets for Delhi, while Khaleel Ahmed picked up another three.
Despite the big loss, KKR are still on top of the points table with a net run rate of +0.446. Delhi, meanwhile, are sixth with four points.
