IPL 2022, Match 2: DC vs MI preview

A new look Delhi Capitals will take on five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the second match of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The Capitals got close to their maiden title last year before they lost to KKR in the Qualifier 2 and will be hoping to grab the silverware this time around under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant. Mumbai, on the other hand, failed to make it to the playoffs last season and will be looking to get back to winning ways this year.

Mumbai Indians have won 16 out of the 30 matches played against Delhi Capitals while the Capitals have won the remaining 14. In the last five encounters between the two teams, Rohit Sharma's men have won thrice and lost twice.

Injury update and team news

DC – Star batsman David Warner, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Lungi Ngidi will be unavailable for the first few games. Warner and Marsh are currently playing the international series against Pakistan.

MI – Mumbai Indians will be missing the services of middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav who is still in rehab at the National Cricket Academy due to a hairline thumb fracture.

Probable XI for both the teams

Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw, Tim Seifert, KS Bharat, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Rovman Powell, Sarfaraz Khan/Mandeep Singh, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav/Lalit Yadav, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Chetan Sakariya

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Anmolpreet Singh, Kieron Pollard, Tim David, Daniel Sams, Sanjay Yadav, Mayank Markande, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills

Two players to watch out for from both teams

DC – Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw

The Delhi Capitals have quite a lot of power hitters in their ranks this season. Both Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant have been with the franchise for the last few years and know how to get the job done with the bat. Pant is currently one of the most destructive batsmen in all formats of cricket, and if he gets going, even the best of bowlers could be taken to the cleaners. Similar can be told of Shaw, who loves going for the big shots.

MI – Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan

All eyes will be on Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan when Mumbai play their 2022 tournament opener against the Capitals. Little needs to be told about Rohit, the current India captain and the most successful captain in the IPL. Kishan, meanwhile, was the most expensive player in the 2022 auction and will be expected to go all guns blazing.

Who will win the match between DC and MI?

The Delhi Capitals signed some of the biggest names in the auction, but most of them are unavailable for the first few games, which could be a big setback for the team. They will miss Warner, Marsh, Nigidi, Rahman and Nortje in the clash against the five-time champions. The only two foreign players they have available for their first game are Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell. With so many big names out of action, it is safe to predict Mumbai Indians as the winners of this clash.
