Sunrisers Hyderabad won their fourth game on a trot by beating the Punjab Kings by 7 wickets in match no. 28 of IPL 2022.
Batting first, the Kings scored an insufficient score of 151 runs in their 20 overs. Apart from Liam Livingstone, no other batsman could deliver the goods. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow, of whom expectations have been high this season, fell cheaply. Livingstone, Punjab's most expensive player this season, scored 60 off 33. Shahrukh Khan chipped in with 26 runs but at a poor strike rate of only 92.86.
Umran Malik was the best bowler for the Sunrisers, picking up four wickets for just 28 runs. The young pacer was well assisted by senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who picked up three wickets for 22 runs.
Chasing 152 to win, Hyderabad wrapped up the game with more than an over remaining. Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran remained unbeaten on 41 and 35 each. Earlier, Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi scored in 30s.
The three wickets that fell in the Sunrisers' batting innings were picked by Rahul Chahar (2) and Kagiso Rabada (1).
"It's been a nice period of play for us as a side. There's been a lot of growth. It's a long season, lot of cricket left. As a side, it's important we continue to look to improve. Today was a really strong performance on a surface that was a little bit different. Every team is strong, but for us, it's just focusing on our cricket," Sunrisers skipper Kane Williamson said after the win.
