Gujarat Titans beat Chennai Super Kings by 3 wickets in match 29 of IPL 2022. Batting first, the Super Kings posted a total of 169 runs on the board. Last season's Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad finally found form as he hit 73 off 48 laced with five boundaries and as many maximums. Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali scored in single digits but Ambati Rayudu's 46 helped stabilized the ship. Down the order, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 19 and 22 each. It can be noted that none of these batsmen scored at a good strike rate, which eventually cost Chennai the game.
Mohammad Shami was the most economical of all bowlers, conceding only 20 runs in his four overs and also picking up a wicket.
Chasing 170 to win, the Titans had a miserable start, losing back to back wickets. The top four in their batting lineup together scored just 23 runs. This includes a duck each by Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar.
But David Miller and Rashid Khan's match-winning knocks took the team over the line. Miller scored 94 off 51 while Rashid hit 40 off 21. The game went down to the wire before Gujarat won it in the penultimate ball of the last over.
Dwayne Bravo picked up three wickets while Maheesh Theekshana scalped two.
The Titans are now at the top of the points table with five wins in six games. Chennai, meanwhile, are placed ninth with just one win in six games.
