Match 40 of IPL 2022 went down to the wire as Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan finished the chase with two sixes in the last two balls.
Batting first, the Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a competitive total of 195 runs on the board. Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram scored half-centuries while down the order debutant Shashank Singh played a blinder of an innings, remaining unbeaten on 25 off just six deliveries. His knock was laced with one boundary and three maximums and helped the Sunrisers set a Titans a challenging total.
For the Titans, Mohammad Shami picked up three wickets at an economy of 9.75. Yash Dayal was the most economical bowler with 24 runs in four overs with a wicket.
Chasing 196 to win, the Titans got off to a decent start with opener Wriddhiman Saha scoring 68 off 38. The middle order also chipped in with a few runs before Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan finished the game for the side. Tewatia remained unbeaten on 40 off 21 while Rashid was the star of the game with an unbeaten 31 off just 11 that was laced with four sixes. The Titans needed 9 runs off the last two balls with Rashid on strike, and the bowling all-rounder hit both the last two deliveries for a six.
With that win, the Hardik Pandya-led Titans are right at the top of the points table with seven wins in eight games. Sunrisers, on the other hand, are in the third spot with five wins in eight games.
